Cameron Hanisch’s 3-pointer with three seconds left in overtime lifted the Seabury Hall Spartans past the St. Francis Saints 40-37 in the semifinals of the OC 16/HHSAA Division II state basketball championships at Kaimuki gym.
Hanisch also had a hand in sending the game into overtime when he hit a jumper with 1:40 left in the fourth period, tying the game at 37. His jumper proved to be the final basket in regulation.
After trailing 25-14 at halftime, the Spartans rallied back to outscore the Saints 23-12 in the second half to force overtime.
Seabury Hall’s Isaiah Payne had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Supilani Mailei led St. Francis with a double-double of his own, logging game highs of 17 points and 16 boards.
University 54, Honokaa 39
University jumped out to a 23-9 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back.
The Jr. ’Bows had a lead as big as 48-25 with 5:17 remaining after an Anson Canencia 3-pointer with 5:17 remaining.
Ryan Hobus paced University with his double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Falk and Kea Callihan had a team-high eight points apiece for the Dragons.
