7 injured — 1 critically — in multiple vehicle crash on Maui
Speed was determined to be a factor in a multi-vehicle traffic incident on Honoapiilani Highway that left a 57-year-old man in critical condition on Thursday.
According to police, the injured man, a visitor from Gary, Ind., was driving a 2012 Hyundai Elantra north on the highway shortly after 1 p.m. when he crossed left of center and hit the rear driver side panel of a 2015 Nissan Altima, operated by a 57-year-old man from Bedford, Texas, that was traveling south.
The Hyundai then continued north in the southbound lane and collided head on with a 2015 Dodge Dart operated by a 45-year-old man from Brookline, Mass.
The driver of the Hyundai was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The four occupants of the Nissan and the two occupants of the Dodge were each transported to the same hospital in fair condition.

This is so funny, the rest of the continent says Hawai’i got the worst drivers in the US and look what just happen. No of them were local drivers, BOOM!
This most likely stemmed from tourist seeing whales and then not paying attention to the road or anything else for that matter. I drive this road daily and see it happen more than once in the 45 minute drive from Maalaea to Lahaina.
