Winds, gusting to 50 mph in some spots, are expected to stick around through tonight.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the state until 6 a.m. Wednesday as northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph, with wind gusts of more than 40 mph continue to bring blustery conditions to the islands.

Forecasters advise residents to secure lightweight outdoor objects and for motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, to exercise caution.

Meanwhile, a weather system that moved over Kauai and Oahu this morning is bringing some showers to the islands, especially on Kauai. Most of the rains will fall on windward and mauka areas. However, the strong winds may blow some showers over to the leeward side.

The increased chance of showers continues through Wednesday night.

The weather service also posted a high surf advisory for east-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island as the strong winds generate a trade-wind swell.

Surf along east shores could reach 6 to 10 feet through 6 a.m. Thursday.

Forecasters advise beachgoers, swimmers and surfers to heed all advise given by lifeguards.

The surf will create strong, breaking waves, shorebreak and rip currents that make swimming difficult and dangerous.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for windy weather with mostly sunny skies with scattered showers through Wednesday. Highs will be between 75 and 83 degrees and lows are expected to fall between 65 and 71 degrees.

There’s a 40 to 50 percent chance of rain through Wednesday night.
