Clear skies for Great Aloha Run, winds could pick up later in the morning
Participants in the Great Aloha Run can expect mostly clear conditions with winds becoming breezy late this morning with moderate high temperatures between 75 to 83 degrees along the south shores of Oahu.
The National Weather Service calls for northeast winds of around 10 mph to increase to 15 to 25 mph in the late morning and afternoon. The breezy conditions will continue tonight with a 50 percent chance of showers after midnight. Lows will be between 65 and 71 degrees.
Showers will mainly fall in windward and mauka areas, but the strong winds could blow some rain over to leeward areas.
Meanwhile, a high surf advisory is in effect from until 6 p.m. on north and west shores as a new swell builds today.
North- and west-facing shores of Kauai and Niihau and north shores of Oahu and Molokai saw surf of 14 t o 18 feet today. West shores of Oahu and Molokai expected wave heights of 8 to 12 feet.
Forecasters urge beach-goers exercise caution and obey instructions from lifeguards.
