A high-surf advisory is in effect for north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai and the north shore of Maui until 6 p.m. Monday.
The advisory was issued in response to an incoming west-northwest swell that is expected to produce advisory-level surf as it moves west to east across the state today.
Surf heights today were expected to reach 14 to 18 feet on the north and west shores of Kauai and the north shores of Oahu, Molokai and Maui.
The west shores of Oahu and Molokai were expected to see surf of 8 to 12 feet by this afternoon.
Ocean users are warned to expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that could make swimming difficult and dangerous.
Meanwhile, dry and stable conditions are expected to prevail through today.

Work on guardrail and safety improvements along Koloa Road is set to resume Thursday, Kauai County officials say.
Work hours will be Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of March.
Officials advised that there will be periodic lane closures from Omao Road to about a half-mile west of Omao Road to allow for installation of the guardrail system.
The improvements will also include installing pavement markings, rumble strips and replacement signs along a 2.7-mile section of Koloa Road from Omao Road to Iwipoo Road (near theformer Lawai Cannery).
