A new year always reminds me of fresh starts, moving on from the past, and making amends. For “Hawaii Five-0”, that might be hard to do in the middle of a season. Yet, while I was watching the rebroadcast of the season five episodes “‘Ike Hānau” (Instinct) and “Kū kaʻawale” (Stakeout), I thought about my post during the summer hiatus when I dared to dream about my hopes for the upcoming season.

My wants for season six included:

1- McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) getting answers from his mother Doris (Christine Lahti) about their connection to Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos);
2- Danno (Scott Caan) completing his family with Rachel (Claire van der Boom) and their children;
3- Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) putting Malia to rest and finding some closure with his wayward brother-in-law Gabriel (Christopher Sean);
4- Kono (Grace Park) and Adam (Ian Anthony Dale) finally being happy together;
5- Grover (Chi McBride) finding the evidence to prove that his former partner is a murderer;
6- Jerry (Jorge Garcia) officially joining the Five-0 team;
7- Sgt. Duke Lukela (Dennis Chun) having a chance to reveal his past;
8- Max (Masi Oka) meeting his Halloween hero Keanu Reeves;
9- Kamekona (Taylor Wily) starting a brick-and-mortar restaurant with Flippa (Shawn Mokuahi Garnett) as the house musician.

Right— so after you read this list— you know that only a few of my dreams have come true. And on a couple, only parts have come to fruition.

So far, really only #6 has been fulfilled— in “Ua ʻoʻolokū ke anu i na mauna” (“The Chilling Storm is on the Mountain”), Jerry got his own office in the Five-0 headquarters. He’s helped the team with several cases— most notably, in the season opener when he found the treasure map to the “pirate booty,” and when he filled in all the gaps regarding the Hawaiian Howard Hughes, Harrison Crane, whose murder the team investigated.

Two of my season six desires that have come partially true are #3 and #4. Chin seems to be on his way to finding love with visiting San Francisco Inspector Abby Dunn (Julie Benz). Her arrival to basically ride along with Five-0 seemed like a blind date set-up at first, but after her action— and Chin’s reaction— in “Ka Mākau Kaʻa Kaua” (“The Sweet Science”), I think their relationship is going to move on to something more serious.

The part that is probably not ever going to come true, is Chin being able to get some sort of peace with Malia’s baby brother, Gabriel. He has been a very, very bad boy this season— torturing and stealing from Kono and Adam; as well as killing Yakuza boss Goro Shioma (Akira Hirayama)— all while taunting Chin to try and stop him.

But this is one part of the dream that I’m glad we are still enjoying. While I don’t approve of how evil Gabriel is to Chin and the rest of the Five-0 crew, I sure love watching how devious he can be.

As for #4— Kono and Adam were happy for roughly 48 hours— on their wedding day and then part of their first day as husband and wife. And then Gabriel came by to ruin their lives. Really, he was the one who started all their troubles. If he hadn’t forced Adam to give him all his money— which Adam was going to use to pay back the Yakuza so he could finally legitimize his business— then Adam would never have had to kill the two thugs who were planning to murder him. And thus, he would not be in jail right now. So my happily ever after ending for Kono and Adam is obviously going to be put on the back burner for about 18 months— which is how long Adam is going to be in Halawa serving his sentence.

So for my list, I am basically 1 for 9. I guess I could get a half point for Chin moving on with his love life, but that has not come to full-fruition yet. And I don’t think I can count Kono and Adam finding happiness, as Adam is now behind bars. Still, my wants for the team are in the “hoping and praying” queue.

And while I’m still wishing for some resolution for the team, I think a few of the items on my list are close. I think Danno could find some peace about his family. He seems to be getting to know his son, Charlie (Zach Sulzbach), as Danno was able to donate his bone marrow to help the boy, and they spent a sweet moment together in the Halloween episode.

McGarrett still has not seen any sign of his mother and I’m not sure if the show has just moved on from this storyline, as now Wo Fat is dead, and we have not seen much of Joe White (Terry O’Quinn). Grover had his chance to try and prove Clay’s guilt, but didn’t seem to get any traction on his investigation when he went to Chicago.

Max may not ever get to meet Keanu, but his Halloween costume this season— as Reeves’ character Le Chevalier Raphael Danceny from “Dangerous Liaisons”— was great. And while it also doesn’t look like we may get a chance to see Duke’s backstory, we will get to see Kamekona’s past next week in the first new episode of 2016 in “Kuleana” (“One’s Personal Sense of Responsibility”) which airs Jan. 8.

I’m glad we’ll get to see more of Kamekona’s backstory and where he started from before being befriended by the Five-0 task force. I still want to one day see Flippa singing on the show. If you are one of those lucky fans who has had a chance to see Shawn Garnett perform, you know he is one talented Hawaiian.

Really folks, my wish list for season six has a lot of common wants and desires— but perhaps I should have added a #10— a wish for McGarrett to find love and happiness. He sure seems to want that, as we saw in his desire to ask Catherine (Michelle Borth) to marry him. And while that didn’t work out very well, he did try to get himself out there again when he went out on a pretty unforgettable date with Lynn (Sarah Carter) in “Nā Kama Hele” (“Day Trippers”).

Still— I think all of our hopes for the new year is that all of the Five-0 team continue on for a seventh season. We can all add that to our wish list no matter how we differ in our hopes for our favorite characters and what happens to them in 2016.
