Top-seeded Kyle Edmund defeated No. 3 seed James Duckworth 7-6 (4), 6-3 to reach the men’s singles championship match of the Sportmaster Tennis Championships of Maui on Saturday at Royal Lahaina Tennis Ranch. Di Wu of China clinched the second men’s singles semifinal with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 win over Australia’s Alex Bolt.
No. 1 seed Christina McHale advanced to the women’s singles championship with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Naomi Broady. McHale will face Raveena Kingsley, who upset No. 2 seed Samantha Crawford in the second semifinal 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. The two Americans will face off at 10 a.m., with the men’s singles championship to follow.
Hawaii Hilo men fall in overtime
The Hawaii Hilo men’s basketball team overcame a nine-point deficit to force extra play, but eventually fell 82-80 in overtime against Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, Calif., on Saturday.
Salim Gloyd led the Vulcans with 22 points and also made the basket to send the game into overtime. Parker Farris added 17 points for Hawaii Hilo (4-12, 4-8 PacWest). Brian Ying and Korey Serna led the Argonauts (3-16, 2-10) with 23 points each. Ying also recorded 12 rebounds.

Friel scored 20 points with 12 rebounds, while Lange recorded 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Seasiders (12-6, 9-4 PacWest). Josh Rodriguez led the Sea Lions (11-8, 6-6) with 16 points.

Kiran Shastri led the Silverswords (8-11, 6-6 PacWest) with 17 points, followed by Sam Daly (16), Kuany Kuany (15), Rohndell Goodwin (15) and Kevin Hu (15). Jase Harrison posted a game-high 30 points and 11 rebounds for the Urban Knights (4-15, 2-11).
HPU women’s hoops win on road
Breanna Mackenzie posted 18 points with eight rebounds to lead the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team in a 70-61 win over Dixie State on Saturday in St. George, Utah.
Freshman Janessa Manzano added 17 points for the Sharks (12-7, 9-3 PacWest), while Taylor Mann finished with a game-high 26 points for Dixie State (4-14, 4-8).

Kim Schmelz led the Vulcans (5-11, 5-6 PacWest) with 12 points and eight rebounds. Kirsten Liana recorded a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Argonauts (3-17, 2-10).
>> Alex Brunk recorded a double-double to lead Point Loma Nazarene over the BYU-Hawaii women’s basketball team 71-58 on Saturday in San Diego.
Brunk scored a game-high 21 points with 16 rebounds for the Sea Lions (14-5, 8-4 PacWest). Jiashan Cui finished with 17 points and two steals for the Seasiders (7-10, 4-8).
>> Academy of Art edged the Chaminade women’s basketball team 78-69 on Saturday in San Francisco. The Silverswords (4-12, 4-8 PacWest) shot 43.9 percent from the field compared to the Urban Knights’ 38.7 percent, but committed nine more turnovers (22-13).
Chaminade’s Lilia Maio finished with a team-high 18 points, followed by Sabrina Angle’s 16 points. Regina Camera led the Urban Knights (17-6, 12-1) with 18 points.
Augustana sweeps Chaminade softball
No. 20 Augustana swept the Chaminade women’s softball team 10-2 and 7-4 in nine innings. Chaminade (0-2) rallied for three runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap to force extra innings.
Rainelle Matsuoka led the Silverswords with three hits in the doubleheader, including a solo homer for her first career hit. Carley Pickett recorded eight strikeouts for the Vikings (2-0) in their season opener.
