Asked about the opportunity to put on a show in today’s Pro Bowl, Odell Beckham Jr. said his objective is to “just have fun. I think that’s the most important thing.”
“I think it’s more important that he scores three touchdowns,” quipped Eric Davis, a former Pro Bowl cornerback with the San Francisco 49ers and Pro Bowl Legend co-captain with Team Rice this week.
Beckham, the New York Giants wide receiver, was swiped up quickly when team captain Jerry Rice won the coin flip at Tuesday’s Pro Bowl press conference and figures to see ample opportunities to make plays today at Aloha Stadium.
Rice picked Giants quarterback Eli Manning with his first selection in the draft on Wednesday, reuniting a pass-catch combo that accounted for 96 completions for 1,450 yards and 13 touchdowns this season.
Rice also paired Oakland quarterback Derek Carr with dynamic rookie receiver and Raiders teammate Amari Cooper, who caught 72 passes for 1,070 yards and six scores.
Team Rice’s receiver corps also features Miami’s Jarvis Landry, Beckham’s college teammate at LSU, and Indianapolis’ T.Y. Hilton.
Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson won the NFL rushing title with 1,485 yards this season and has four Pro Bowl touchdowns in his career.
After taking Manning in the draft, Rice used his second pick on Oakland defensive end Khalil Mack, who finished second in the league with 15 sacks. Kansas City cornerback Marcus Peters earned a spot in his rookie season by tying for league-high honors with eight interceptions.
Team Rice’s secondary also features two of the game’s most compelling storylines. Kansas City safety Eric Berry returns to the Pro Bowl a year after battling cancer and Oakland great Charles Woodson will bid farewell in the finale to his 18-year career.
