There has been a temporary management change at KITV, according to President and General Manager Joe McNamara, or “Joe Mac,” as he is more widely known.
McNamara has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the white blood cells in the bone marrow. He is undergoing treatment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he describes the team as “stellar.”
In the interim, heading up KITV will be John Christianson, executive vice president of Lilly Broadcasting LLC, an affiliate of California-based SJL Broadcast Management, which bought the station in May.
“John has graciously offered to fill in for me over the next few months,” McNamara said.
McNamara agreed to having his situation published to inform the business community about the colleague who will be running the station in his stead, but also “to let people know I am out taking on a cancer challenge — something that literally effects every family in the world in one way or another.”

The Let Them Eat Cupcakes bake shop reopened in its original location Tuesday morning to an enthusiastic reception from longtime customers.
Those who perused the shop at 35 S. Beretania St. could choose from cupcake flavors including red velvet, chocolate, German chocolate, vanilla bean, mocha, pistachio and some gluten-free options, as well as eclairs, cookies, cake pops and scones in various flavors.
Gluten-free options are to be available every day.
Bakery owner Kawehi Haug also was co-founder of the Bethel Street Tap Room at 1153 Bethel St., in the space formerly occupied by RaKuen Lounge. She moved the retail operations of Let Them Eat Cupcakes there when the bar opened in late 2014.
The Bethel Street Tap Room closed Jan. 13.
Haug and her partners in Bethel Street Tap Room intend to reopen elsewhere, but “in the meantime we’ll be launching the Tap Room Test Kitchen, a rotating menu of new recipes and fun foodie experiments that will be available at our Beretania Street shop,” she said. Dishes that garner the most favor “will be on the menu at our new place. We’re also hoping to take the Test Kitchen to farmers markets and other street events,” Haug said.
