Mike Mularkey adds 3 assistants to Titans coaching staff
NASHVILLE, Tenn. » Tennessee coach Mike Mularkey has hired three assistants adding Russ Grimm as his offensive line coach, Deshea Townsend for the secondary and Steve Jackson as assistant secondary coach.
The Titans announced the additions today.
Grimm has not coached since 2012 when he finished up six seasons as assistant head coach with the offensive line in Arizona. He also coached the offensive line in Pittsburgh where he worked with Mularkey and Washington where he started coaching in 1992 overseeing the Redskins’ tight ends. He was voted to the Hall of Fame for his 11-year career where he played in six Super Bowls, winning four.
Townsend joins the Titans after coaching cornerbacks at Mississippi State the past three seasons. He also was assistant defensive backs coach with Arizona in 2011 and 2012. A four-year starter in college at Alabama, Townsend played in 191 games in the NFL, including six seasons in Pittsburgh for Titans defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau. Townsend won two Super Bowls playing for the Steelers.
Jackson now will work for the franchise that drafted him in the third round in 1991. He played 127 games over nine seasons with this franchise with 14 interceptions and nine sacks. Jackson went into coaching with Buffalo in 2001 before going to Washington for nine seasons. He was assistant secondary coach in Detroit in 2013.
