It’s good to see Island Air resume its Honolulu-Lihue route, six times daily, starting March 15 (pending government approval).
The announcement comes about seven months after Island Air dropped that flight, and just two weeks after the airline was sold to an investment group led by Jeffrey Au. Whether Au’s Island Air will realize financial success where billionaire Larry Ellison didn’t remains, well, up in the air.
For now through Sunday, fliers between Oahu and Kauai can get in on a $63 one-way fare that Island Air is offering for March 15-May 31 travel. Oh, and the dominant carrier, Hawaiian Airlines, responded with something similar. So far, so good for consumers.
We have our woes, but not snow storms
This is surely one of those times to feel, as the slogan goes, lucky we live Hawaii.
After lashing South and Mid-Atlantic states, a monster snowstorm bore down on the East Coast overnight. More than 85 million people were in the path, with some 30 million of them under blizzard warnings. Last night, folks in Washington and Baltimore were hunkered down for the enormous storm with “life and death implications,” and East Coast air travel had come to a virtual standstill.
Hawaii gets its share of hurricane threats, sure. But seeing the scary snow conditions there, compared with our sunny blue skies here, we simply must stop to count our blessings.
