The overtime tab at the Honolulu Police Department for President Barack Obama’s holiday vacation was $341,216, an increase over his previous two visits.
The amount expended for overtime during the president’s two-week visit from Dec. 19 to Jan. 3 was released today by HPD.
That’s up from last year’s total of $277,585. Police racked up $293,731.99 in overtime on the previous winter vacation.
The president spent much of his time on Oahu on the golf course, as is typical for his annual trips to Hawaii. The first family also spent time hiking and on beach excursions, and had several dinners at some of Hawaii’s top restaurants.
Ex-Judge Marks will lead city ethics panel
Former state Judge Victoria Marks was elected chairwoman of the seven-member Honolulu Ethics Commission on Wednesday.
She replaces Katy Chen, whose term on the commission expired at the end of 2015.
Marks received four votes while commission member Michael Lilly received two votes. Commission members Riki May Amano and Allene Suemori joined Marks and Lilly in voting for Marks. Lilly received votes from commission members Stephen Silva and Stanford Yuen.
Lilly retained his post as vice chairman by a 4-2 vote, with Silva and Lilly himself voting against the nomination.
Lilly’s term expired Dec. 31. Unlike Chen, however, Lilly agreed to stay on until a replacement could be named by Mayor Kirk Caldwell and approved by the City Council.
