The Outrigger Canoe Club’s boys volleyball team beat out 62 other teams to win gold in the 16s Open Division at the 2016 Boys Winter Volleyball Championships in Chicago on Monday.
Outrigger dropped just one set in the tournament, which happened to be in the final, and defeated Canada’s Durham Attack Black 25-17, 19-25, 15-11.
BYU-Hawaii’s Zhang clinches Wild Card
BYU-Hawaii’s Dallas Zhang defeated Hawaii Pacific sophomore Kristyna Hancarova in the 2016 Wild Card Tournament, 6-0, 6-1 at Kailua Racquet Club on Tuesday. Hancarova reached the final by upsetting University of Hawaii’s top player, Cindy Nguyen, in the semifinals.
By clinching the Wild Card title, Zhang earned a berth into the main draw of the Women’s $50,000 SportMaster Tennis Championships at Maui’s Royal Hawaiian Resort this weekend. Zhang is the second-ranked player in the nation and competes for the No. 3 Seasiders.
HPU’s Hancarova earned a wild card berth into the qualifying draw.
