Authorities charged two 22-year-old homeless men in connection with vehicle break-ins at a Haleiwa beach park this week.
Faiaga Vai, 22, was charged with two counts of breaking into a car and misdemeanor impersonating a police officer after allegedly trying to pass himself off as an officer when he was caught looking into a car Tuesday. His bail was set at $25,000.
Gideon Mesa, 22, who was allegedly driving the stolen car that collided with another vehicle as he and Vai tried to elude police, was charged with car theft and several drug violations. His bail also was set at $25,000.
Both were charged Thursday afternoon.
Suspect sought in purse theft
A man who offered to fix a woman’s vehicle at her home in Mililani last week is wanted for allegedly stealing her purse.
Police are asking for help in identifying him.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. Jan. 7.
The suspect offered to fix the woman’s vehicle, and she allowed him to enter her home to use the restroom, police said.
The man then allegedly took the woman’s purse and drove off in a newer-model white sedan.
Police said the suspect was well groomed, wearing a collared shirt, black slacks and dress shoes. He was in his 30s to early 40s, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall, with a medium build, weighing 160 to 180 pounds.

Surfer, 41, in critical condition
A surfer was found unresponsive in waters off the Waianae Coast and taken to a hospital late Friday afternoon.
Emergency medical personnel responding to the scene said the man, 41, was in critical condition. The incident was reported at about 5:30 p.m. off Farrington Highway.
No further details were provided.
