DENNIS ODA / DODA@STARADVERTISER.COM

Brandt Snedeker follows his tee shot on the 1st hole of today’s Sony Open at Waialae. He shot a 65 to lead at -12 followed by Kevin Kisner at -11.

After last Sunday’s final round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Brandt Snedeker was ready to play the Sony Open in Hawaii the very next day. Now you know why.

Coming off a tie for third in that winners-only event, Snedeker shot straight to the top of the Sony Open leaderboard today with a second-round 65 that left him at 12-under 128, one shot clear of FedEx Cup points leader Kevin Kisner (66—129) and two strokes removed from British Open champion Zach Johnson (66—130), former world No. 1 Luke Donald (65—130), Zac Blair (65—130) and Chez Reavie (63—130).

There were 87 golfers to make the cut, forcing 29 threesomes tomorrow, with the leaders going off at 12:55 p.m. One of those 87 is local boy Nick Mason, who landed on the cutline at 3-under 137. Parker McLachlin did not make the cut after shooting 70 today for a two-day total of 141.
