Jordan Russell hit his sixth 3-pointer of the night with one second left in overtime to lead the Hawaii Hilo men’s basketball team to an 88-85 victory over Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday in San Diego.
Russell finished with 24 points for the Vulcans (1-9, 1-5 PacWest), followed by Salim Gloyd’s 22 points and eight rebounds. Sam Okhotin led the Sea Lions (7-6, 3-4 PacWest) with a game-high 31 points.

Kevin Hu finished with a season-high 26 points for the Silverswords (5-9, 3-4 PacWest), while Rohndell Goodwin and Kuany Kuany posted double-doubles. Goodwin scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and Kuany recorded 16 points plus 12 boards. Petar Kutlesic scored a team-high 15 points for Azusa Pacific (11-3, 5-1 PacWest).

Joel Feigler added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Sharks (9-4, 4-2 PacWest). Jase Harrison and Nick Cary led the Urban Knights (4-9, 2-5 PacWest) with 11 points each.

Joshua Crum scored a team-high 23 points for the Hawks (3-12, 2-5 PacWest), followed by Blake Watkins’ 22 points.
HPU women’s 6-game win streak ends
Sophomore Breanna Mackenzie scored a game-high 23 points, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team, as the Sharks fell to Academy of Art 81-68 on Saturday in San Francisco.
The Sharks (8-5, 5-1 PacWest) recorded 23 turnovers in their first loss in seven games. HPU’s Aminata Cole recorded her second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Zoie Sheng poured in 18 points for the Urban Knights (12-5, 7-0 PacWest).

Courtney Kaupu and Carissa McBride scored 12 points apiece for the Silverswords (3-8, 3-4 PacWest). Elana Ala recorded a game-high 20 points for the Cougars (12-2, 6-0 PacWest).

Kim Schmelz led Hawaii Hilo (2-8, 2-3 PacWest) with 12 points in the loss. Madison West posted a game-high 19 points for the Sea Lions.
>> Three Holy Names players posted double-digits in a 52-43 rout of the BYU-Hawaii women’s basketball team Saturday in Oakland, Calif. Tatiana Howard and Garysha Youngblood led the Hawks (4-11, 3-4 PacWest) with 12 points each, while Chariaha Scott scored 10 points.
Valerie Nawahine finished with 15 points for the Seasiders (5-7, 2-4 PacWest).
Trapasso, Wade to speak at QB Club
University of Hawaii baseball coach Mike Trapasso and men’s volleyball coach Charlie Wade are slated to speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club on Monday at Maple Garden Restaurant.
Trapasso has led the Rainbow Warriors since 2002 and will discuss the nine new players signed for the 2017 season. He’ll also share details about the Annual Grand Slam Celebration on Jan. 18, the same day as the annual alumni game. Wade enters his seventh season as head coach and will speak about the results of the 22nd Outrigger Resorts Invitational and UH’s three preseason All-America honorees.
Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and costs $15 per person.
