Large northwest swell prompts high surf warning
The north and west shores of most islands are under a high surf warning, the National Weather Service said.
A large northwest swell is expected to peak this evening and into Sunday morning producing warning-level surf for the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and the north shores of Maui.
The warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday.
Surf along the north facing shores will be about 10 to 15 feet this morning, rising to 25 to 35 feet this evening for Niihau and Kauai and overnight for Oahu, Molokai, and Maui. The waves will lower to 18 to 25 feet by Sunday afternoon, forecasters said.
The west shores are 8 to 12 feet this morning and is expected to rise to 18 to 25 feet this evening for Kauai and Niihau and overnight for Oahu and Molokai. The waves will lower to 10 to 15 feet early Sunday morning.
