After a lull in new projects last year, expectations are high for construction to begin on two mega-resorts in 2016. Although no firm timetables have been released, it’s believed that the giant Resorts World Las Vegas project at center-Strip will begin construction this summer. Also possible, but less certain, is a kickoff of the neighboring Alon Las Vegas. As for openings this year, the “sure thing” will be the Las Vegas Arena and accompanying Park, which will both debut behind New York-New York in April. Also expected to open later this year is the smaller Lucky Dragon casino on Sahara Avenue just west of the Strip.
Hyde overhead: You can’t have an arena in Las Vegas without a nightclub. It’s been announced that Hyde Lounge, already a staple on the Bellagio nightlife scene, will be the exclusive club option at the new Las Vegas Arena. It will have two platforms extending over the floor to provide unencumbered views, as well as a more intimate “lounge experience.”
New sports book: Joining the Westgate and Red Rock in their recent sports book build-outs is the Cosmopolitan, which is relocating its upstairs book to the main casino floor. What’s being described as “one of the biggest sports books on the Strip” is expected to be up and running in time for the Super Bowl.
In-N-Out: In-N-Out Burger is heading to the Strip, with plans to open at the Brooklyn Bowl in the LINQ Promenade. Also opening elsewhere in the Promenade is the long-promised Gordon Ramsay’s Fish & Chips and Canter’s Deli, which was previously located at Treasure Island.
Question: Is it true that a Cracker Barrel is coming to Las Vegas?
Answer: Following in the path of White Castle, Anchor Bar and Chick-fil-A, the iconic Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is on its way to town, where it will take up residence at Silverton. The brand, famous for its rustic decor and Southern-style food, has 650 outlets in 42 states, but this will be the first for Nevada. An opening date has not been announced.
