1 dead, 2 injured in head-on Waianae collision

The crash happened at 12:13 a.m. on Waianae Valley Road, about 180 feet north of Plantation Road.
A man is dead and two women are injured after a head-on collision early this morning in Waianae, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Friends and family identified the victim as Harvey Hashimoto Jr.
At 12:13 a.m., a 19-year-old Waianae man was driving southbound on Waianae Valley Road with his two Waianae 18-year-old male passengers when he lost control of the car and collided with a car traveling northbound about 180 feet north of Plantation Road.
The 19-year-old driver’s car kept traveling, severed a power pole, and overturned, police said. The driver was ejected from his car and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the two 18-year-old passengers were not injured.
Both occupants in the northbound car, driven by a 29-year-old Waianae woman and her 23-year-old female passenger, were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash, but it’s unknown if alcohol played a role.
This is Oahu’s 48th traffic fatality this year, compared to 52 at the same time last year, according to police.

Sounds like another example of somebody falling asleep at the wheel… You pretty much risk your life every time you are out driving around midnight with buzzed drivers going home from bars on the road around that time and also dozing off.
Countries like England have bars on ever street corner so you can stumble home after a night of drinking.

Could happen in Waianae, Makiki, Kahala or anyplace else. Stupid, (inattentive or on drugs) drivers are the problem. At least the dumb driver is dead, can’t be on the road again.

In this case, it’s a good thing the driver who crossed the center line wasn’t wearing his seat belt. He won’t be able to hurt innocent people again.
