Maui firefighters extinguish brush fire at dumping ground
Firefighters responded to a brush fire that occurred at a dumping ground in Wailea on Maui.
The fire occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday near Keonekai Road and Piilani Highway. Firefighters found an area of grass and trash burning about 200 yards mauka of the highway and 300 yards north of homes on Mapu Drive.
The Maui Fire Department said the fire was under control by 7 p.m. and extinguished at 7:48 p.m.
The burned area covered an area 100 x 150 feet and appeared to be a dumping ground for discarded household items.
