Blunt force injuries killed Waianae biker

A 37-year-old man who was killed Sunday evening when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Kunia Road died of multiple blunt force injures, the medical examiner said Wednesday.

The medical examiner identified the motorcyclist as Erric Odom of Waianae.

Police said Odom was headed south on Kunia Road at a high rate of speed at about 6:11 p.m. when his 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a 2005 Toyota pickup truck driven by a 33-year-old Waipahu man, who was making a left turn into a cane haul road about 2 miles north of Kuoo Street.

Ejected from the motorcycle, Odom suffered head and internal injuries. He died at the scene, police said.

Odom was not wearing a helmet, police said.

His death marks the 46th traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared with 54 deaths at the same time last year.

Suspect arrested in Chinatown bank heist

Honolulu police have arrested a suspect in the July 28 robbery of the HomeStreet Bank in Chinatown.

Police arrested Isaiah M. Parsons, 20, who gave no local address, Tuesday morning on a grand jury warrant at Circuit Court charging him with second-degree robbery. Parsons was being held on $11,000 bail.

Police said they suspect Parsons is the masked suspect who gave the teller at the HomeStreet branch at 2 S. King St. a note demanding $6,000 at about 12:30 p.m. July 28.

The robber fled on a bicycle with the money, police said.

Bogus contractor gets 15-year term

A con artist who posed as a licensed contractor to defraud several senior citizens and others over three years was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison.

Alexander Nebre stole more than $130,800 from nine victims, including five senior citizens, while posing as a contractor from 2011 to 2014, the prosecutor’s office said.

He pleaded no contest to several counts of first-degree theft, second-degree theft and attempted second-degree theft.

Circuit Judge Shirley Kawamura sentenced Nebre and ordered him to pay $131,000 in restitution.

The prosecutor’s office said Nebre took money for projects that he never carried out or failed to complete and continued to prey on his victims while out on bail.

Would-be victim foils robbers at UH-Hilo

Two men wearing hoodies, masks and baseball caps tried to rob a man at the Campus Center Plaza at the University of Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday morning, campus security reported.

The incident occurred at about 4:50 a.m.

The suspects approached the victim and asked for a lighter, then grabbed the victim’s backpack and laptop, campus security reported.

The victim struggled with the suspects, who then ran off with his belongings. The victim chased them and they dropped the backpack and laptop and left the campus heading toward Kapiolani Street, according to the security report.

Hawaii County police are investigating the matter.
