United bringing back free snacks in coach on U.S. flights
CHICAGO » United Airlines is bringing back free snacks for economy-class passengers in February.
Those snacks were cut off in 2008 by United and Continental followed suit in 2011 after the airlines merged.
Jimmy Samartzis, United’s vice president of food services, said the airline is “refocusing on the big and little things that we know matter to our customers.”
Economy flyers can now look forward to treats ranging from stroopwafels, a Dutch treat of two thin waffles stuck together with caramel, to an Asian-inspired mix of rice crackers, sesame sticks and wasabi peas.
The airline said today that the snacks would return on all United and United Express flights within the U.S. and those in Latin America that don’t already have them.

United’s flight quality has deteriorated so much that I no longer fly with them. Their seats are so uncomfortable and there is no reason for that. Also, the inflight services can (and should)be greatly improved. It’ll take more that the snacks to get me flying with United once again.
Even in First Class flying to Chicago on United, everything had a run-down and worn out feel. The cabin crew was great though.
Too little too late.
Trying to compensate for the narrower seats and aisle?
Now if United would only select snack packaging that doesn’t require a Swiss Army Knife to defeat. This wasn’t a big deal when you could legally carry a regular SAK on board. Oh well, maybe when we finally come to understand we’ve been trying to refight the last war for at least the last ten years. . .
