Football coach Nick Rolovich will receive an automatic one-year extension if the University of Hawaii reaches a bowl game in his first or second year.
The provision, which was not contained in the contracts of his predecessors, is part of the terms of his four-year contract announced Monday. UH has gone five seasons without a bowl appearance.
Rolovich is to be paid a base salary of $400,008 for each of his first two years and $425,000 for the third and fourth years of the agreement.
If Rolovich is terminated without cause by UH, the school would owe him $150,000 for his final year. That is $50,000 less than UH paid to terminate his predecessor, Norm Chow, last month.
Should UH dismiss him earlier, it would owe him the “remainder of the contract base salary amount with the fourth year limited to $150,000,” the agreement reads.
If Rolovich leaves for another job he would owe the school $150,000.
Bonus provisions include $40,000 if UH wins the West Division and participates in the Mountain West Championship Game or $80,000 if UH wins the title game.
Rolovich, who becomes a member of the Hawaii Government Employees Association with his hiring, agreed to disclose the terms of his agreement with the school.
