Hawaii Pacific breaks school record in win
The Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team (2-2) made 20 3-pointers, the most in school history, in its 85-73 win over Grace Bible College (6-6). Sharks swingman Chauncey Orr led the perimeter onslaught with six treys and pulled in a team-high eight rebounds as well. The Tigers were led by Rod Altidor and Jared Bradford, who had 14 points apiece.
It was the first game of the Hoops in Hawaii Classic for the Sharks, who conclude tournament play against Western Washington at 2 p.m. today at Moanalua High School.
>>In its first game back from the Maui Invitational, the Chaminade men’s basketball team earned its first win of the season, 110-109 in an overtime thriller over Cal State San Marcos. The Silverswords improved to 1-5, while the Cougars dropped t0 2-3.
Rohndell Goodwin’s all-around performance of 20 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists led the way for the Silverswords, who had five players put up double figures. Fresno State transfer Darnell Taylor had a game-high 30 points, while UC Santa Barbara transfer Taran Brown added 27 for the Cougars.
>>The BYU-Hawaii men’s basketball team outgunned Chapman (2-2) 98-82 Saturday at the Cannon Activities Center. The Seasiders (3-2) overcame Cam Haslam’s 40-point performance and rode a 46-33 halftime lead to get the victory. Cory Lange went a near-perfect 8-for-9 with 22 points and Ian Harward added 20 points for BYUH.
The Seasiders open PacWest play with a neighbor-island road contest at Hawaii Hilo. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
