Don’t blink or you might miss it — “it” being today’s scheduled decision-making on how Kewalo Basin is to be redeveloped in the near future.
Two very different proposals for state land at the edge of the Kakaako basin go before the Hawaii Community Development Authority at its 10 a.m. meeting. One is for a $50 million plan by Kewalo Waterfront Partners for a three-story complex to include retail, restaurants, a wedding chapel and parking garage; the other, by Howard Hughes Corp., is for a $6 million facelift of existing structures with an urban fishing village theme; the Hughes plan seems to better retain Kewalo’s low-key, open space vibe.
There is some concern, though, that neither project has been fully and publicly shared before today’s scheduled decision. So, public, if you want to hear more details, the meeting is at 547 Queen St.
Don’t let those mosquitoes bite
It’s time to get serious about using mosquito repellent. With at least 10 cases of dengue fever confirmed on Hawaii island, state Department of Health officials are anticipating more cases in the coming days.
State epidemiologist Dr. Sarah Park said there are pockets of infected mosquitoes that have been transmitting dengue, but it’s unclear where they are on Hawaii island. There were similarities in a few cases out of Hookena and Honaunau in South Kona.
Those affected recently had symptoms included headache, rash, nausea, aches and pains in muscles and bones. So spray that repellent, and clean up standing water.
