Hokule’a reaches South Africa during worldwide voyage
The voyaging canoe Hokule’a has reached Port Elizabeth in South Africa after bypassing a scheduled stop in East London due to bad weather.
The vessel has already traveled more than 10,000 nautical miles since departing Hawaii for its first trip to the African continent. The journey is part of the ongoing Malama Honua Worldwide Voyage.
The canoe left Durban on Thursday and will remain at Port Elizabeth until Monday afternoon. From there, it will continue on around the Cape of Good Hope before reaching Cape Town in mid-November.
