Police reopen investigation of Hawaii woman’s cryotherapy death

LAS VEGAS » The Las Vegas spa worker found dead in a cryotherapy chamber is being mourned by friends and family members ahead of funeral services in Hawaii.

The woman’s uncle, Albert Ake of Reno, said by telephone he was with family for today’s funeral for 24-year-old Chelsea Patricia Ake-Salvacion.

Services were scheduled at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary in Honolulu.

Ake-Salvacion was found dead Oct. 20 in a phone booth-sized cryotherapy chamber at the Rejuvenice spa in Las Vegas where she worked.

Ake says Ake-Salvacion texted her boyfriend in Hawaii the night before and said she was going to use the freeze-therapy machine alone.

The spa is closed.

Police, the coroner in Las Vegas, Nevada state agencies and a lawyer for the family are investigating the death and safety of the device.
