A resurgent season for the Rainbow Wahine cross country team continues with a trip to the Big West championships set for Saturday in Riverside, Calif.
The 6-kilometer race will be held at the Agricultural Operations Course near the UC Riverside campus. UCR will host the meet for the seventh time in the past eight years.
Sophomore Montana Martinez led the Wahine in their final two races of the regular season. She was named the Big West women’s cross country athlete of the week following a second-place finish at the Chaminade Invitational on Oct. 10 and turned in a career-best performance at the Bronco Invitational on Oct. 17. Her time of 21 minutes, 26.70 seconds was UH’s fastest in a 6K race since 2007.
Cal Poly enters the meet as the Big West’s top-rated team, ranked eighth in the West region by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. UC Davis, the defending Big West champion, is ranked 15th.
