5 suspects face court on murder charge in frat hazing death
POCONO PINES, Pa. >> Five men who allegedly took part in a fraternity hazing ritual that killed a New York City college student nearly two years ago are facing murder charges.
The suspects, all from the New York borough of Queens, are expected in a Pennsylvania courtroom Thursday to be arraigned on third-degree murder, hazing and other charges in the 2013 death of Chun “Michael” Deng.
Deng attended Baruch College and was a pledge at the Pi Delta Psi fraternity. Police say he was assaulted by fraternity brothers at a rented home in the Pocono Mountains, about 100 miles west of New York.
He died a day later.
The Pi Delta Psi fraternity itself also is charged with murder.
The suspects are the last of 37 suspects charged in the case. The others face less serious charges.
