Kauai County receives $13 million grant from feds
Kauai County will receive more than $13 million from the U.S Department of Transportation for the revitalization of Lihue.
Among the projects that will be covered by the federal grant are improvements and the addition of pedestrian and bike lanes on Rice Street; a shared-use path from Lihue Civic Center to Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall; and bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Hoolako Street.
Other projects include sidewalks on Hoala and Kalena streets, a bicycle boulevard will be added to Pualole and Malae streets, and transit services for the Lihue Civic Center will be expanded.
The county will need to spend $2.5 million in matching funds.
