The Alliance for Solar Choice plans a protest today at the state Public Utility Commission against the recent decision to end a popular solar incentive program.
The PUC decided to cut the credit amount that new rooftop solar owners on Oahu will receive for the excess energy their photovoltaic systems send to the power grid.
The event starts at 11 a.m. near the King Kamehameha statute on King Street.
“The Hawaii PUC’s recent decision is contrary to public desire, which is overwhelmingly in support of greater solar growth,” said alliance spokesman Robert Harris. “No public hearing was held, nor was a study conducted on the costs and benefits of solar. It appears the PUC’s mind was made up as they issued a decision that’s even harsher towards solar than what HECO asked for.”
Foodland gas station to open in Laie
Foodland Super Market Ltd. is opening its fourth gas station Thursday at Laie Shopping Center, near its grocery store. The new Foodland Gas Station will sell five grades of fuel under the Aloha Petroleum brand: regular, plus, super, ethanol-free and diesel.
An attached convenience store will sell cold drinks, ice, snacks, grab-and-go meals and basic essentials.
The gas station will be at the opposite end of the center from Foodland in front of the post office and will be open 24 hours, seven days a week. Foodland customers will receive a 5-cent-per-gallon discount.
