Hawaii family sues police, city over stun gun-related death
The family of a man who died after Honolulu police used a stun gun to subdue him is suing the city, the officers involved in the incident, Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha and city Corporation Counsel Donna Leong.
Sheldon Haleck, 38, of Kapolei, died March 17 following a confrontation with police on King Street near Iolani Palace.
Police said Haleck was running erratically on the roadway and refused to get onto the sidewalk.
Eric Seitz, the family’s lawyer, claims the use of a stun gun was unjustified and that Keoloha and Leong are covering up what really happened.
