A 20-year-old Haiku man was arrested late Sunday for a hit-and-run after he allegedly injured two moped riders in Kaneohe.
Traffic investigators said the suspect was driving a gray 1998 Toyota on Kahekili Highway near Kahuhipa Street at around 8:30 p.m. when he maneuvered around a stalled vehicle and ran into a red moped carrying two people.
The 45-year-old moped driver was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition. His passenger, a 37-year-old woman, also was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
Both moped riders were not wearing helmets and suffered head and internal injuries.
The 20-year-old driver was not injured.
The driver fled the scene, but police said his girlfriend convinced him to turn himself in.
