A 43-year-old Lahaina man died early Saturday morning following a crash of his electric-powered bicycle.
According to police, Guy Junker was traveling west on Kupuohi Street when the bike struck a curb at the entrance of the Emerald Plaza parking lot.
Junker was thrown from the bike and onto the pavement.
He was transported in critical condition to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he later died.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
This was Maui County’s 19th traffic fatality of 2015, matching the total for the same time last year.
Missing woman and body found
The body of a man was found at the bottom of a Hilo ravine Friday, and a woman who was reported missing along with her husband was also found in the area and is being treated for exposure.
Masaru Miyamoto, 93, and his 88-year-old wife, Tamie Miyamoto, had not been seen since Oct. 11. The decomposing body was found in a ravine behind a home on Kahema Street, and Tamie Miyamoto was found in thick vegetation in the surrounding area. Police are working on positively identifying the body.
Police said they learned that the Miyamotos had been doing yardwork for relatives who were off island and that they frequently picked vegetables behind the house.
Tamie Miyamoto is being treated for exposure at a hospital.
Police do not suspect foul play.
