Police are still looking for the person suspected of shooting an air gun at a group of students in Makiki on Friday, injuring a 15-year-old boy.
Following the incident on Piikoi Street near Mott-Smith Drive, police arrested Justin Perry Souvana, 25, who was the driver of a white van that four to six teen victims said pulled up and stopped while a passenger fired at them, police said.
Souvana, who did not give police a home address when he was arrested, was booked on suspicion of six counts of second-degree assault. He was later charged with second-degree hindering prosecution and released after he posted $2,000 bail Friday.
Police said the incident marked the 18th BB or pellet gun shooting on Oahu — the sixth in which people were injured — since Sept. 22.
HPD veteran charged in death
Retired Honolulu Police Department Maj. Charles Duncan agreed Monday to be charged with negligent homicide in connection with the death of a pedestrian and pleaded not guilty in state court.
The charge is a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Duncan, 73, a 32-year HPD veteran, waived indictment to the charge rather than have the case go before a grand jury.
The charge stems from the Feb. 5 death of 49-year-old Sheri Afuso. Police said Afuso was jogging in a crosswalk along Meheula Parkway in Mililani when Duncan’s pickup truck made a left turn onto a cross street and struck her. She was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center, where she died.
