A 25-year-old Ewa Beach man was taken for mental evaluation after allegedly setting fire to the contents in his bedroom Sunday afternoon, causing more than $20,000 worth of damages.
Fire investigators concluded that the fire at 91-869 Haehae Place was intentionally set. The case was turned over to HPD’s arson unit.
Six fire companies with 19 personnel responded to the two alarm fire at 1:53 p.m. The fire was extinguished the fire by 2:10 p.m.
Four people were home at the time of the fire and were able to evacuate without injury from the one-story building.
The fire damage was contained to one bedroom.
No injuries were reported.
No arrest was made after the homeowners withdrew a first-degree arson complaint. Officials would not say where the man was taken for the mental evaluation.
