Elderly Hilo woman being treated, man’s body found in ravine
The body of a man was found at the bottom of a ravine Friday and a woman who was reported missing along with her husband is being treated for exposure.
Masaru Miyamoto, 93, and his 88-year-old wife, Tamie Miyamoto, had not been seen since Oct. 11. The decomposing body was found in a ravine behind a home on Kahema Street, and Tamie Miyamoto was found in thick vegetation in the surrounding area. Police are working on positively identifying the body.
Police said they learned that the Miyamotos had been doing yard work for relatives who were off island and that they frequently picked warabi behind the house.
Tamie Miyamoto is being treated for exposure at a hopsital.
Police do not suspect foul play.
