Manu-Olevao earns weekly Big West volleyball honors
Hawaii senior outside hitter Tai Manu-Olevao was named the Big West’s player of the week in volleyball today.
The Punahou School product had 27 kills in the Rainbow Wahine’s two wins last week, 12 in the sweet of UC Davis Friday and 15 in the four-set win over UC irvine on Saturday which extended Hawaii’s win streak to 13.
In the victory over UCI, Manu-Olevao finished with her second double-double of the season when coming up with 11 digs. She also was in on a career-high seven blocks, including a career-high two solo.
Also today, Hawaii moved up two spots in the Ratings Percentage Index. The Rainbow Wahine (18-1, 8-0 Big West) went from No. 28 to No. 26 in the RPI.
In today’s AVCA Coaches Top 25, the Wahine remained at No. 8. Leapfrogging Hawaii was Kansas (18-0), which went from No. 9 to No. 7.
The top five remained unchanged with USC (20-0) a unanimous No. 1. Following the Women of Troy are Texas (16-1), Nebraska (16-2), Washington (17-1) and Penn State (17-2).

Ohio State (18-2) moved up a spot to No. 6. Rounding out the Top 10 are Minnesota (15-3) and UCLA (15-3), the latter the only team to beat Hawaii this season.
The Wahine have a bye week and return to the Stan Sheriff Center for their final home matches next Friday against UC Riverside and Sunday against Cal State Fullerton. Hawaii will play its last six regular-season matches on the road.
