The Hawaii Pacific men and women’s soccer teams each won 3-0 in their matches against Chaminade on Saturday.
In the women’s game, Meghan Cooley, Sara Romo and Larkyn Nelson scored goals for the Sharks (5-7, 2-5 PacWest). The Silverswords drop to 1-10 and 0-7 in PacWest play.
Sven Koenig, Josch Cuerten and Erik Kemsies scored for the HPU men (6-4-1, 4-2-1 PacWest). The Chaminade men remain winless, dropping to 0-10 for the season and 0-7 in PacWest play.
>>The Hawaii-Hilo women’s soccer team (4-4-3, 3-4 PacWest) overcame a 1-0 second-half deficit to beat Dominican 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Abcde Zoller scored the equalizer in the 64th minute, while Nicole Rascon’s goal in the 82nd minute gave the Vulcans the lead for good. Lily Dubuc scored for Dominican (4-7-1, 4-3 PacWest).
On the men’s side, the UH-Hilo men (3-9, 2-5 PacWest) used a balanced attack to breeze through Dominican (1-11, 1-6 PacWest) 3-0, led by goals from Evan Bascani, Omar Machado and Alejandro Patino.
>> The BYU-Hawaii women’s soccer team rallied from being down in the first half to defeat Holy Names (3-7, 1-5 PacWest) 2-1 Saturday at BYU-Hawaii soccer field. The Seasiders (4-6-2, 3-3-1 PacWest) were led by Kate Orchard’s first-half goals, which came within two minutes of each other at 38 and 40 minutes.
The BYU-Hawaii men (5-7, 3-4 PacWest) had no trouble with Holy Names (2-8-1, 1-4-1 PacWest), cruising to a 4-0 victory. The Seasiders raced to a 3-0 halftime lead after Jake McRae’s two first-half goals and extended their lead to four with Besser Davila’s second-half goal. Matt Roberts also scored in the first half for the Seasiders.
Martinez paces Hawaii cross country team
UH sophomore Montana Martinez ran a personal best of 21:26.7 in the 6k, leading the Wahine to a 13th-place finish at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational on Saturday.
Martinez’s time was good for 40th overall out of 172 runners, and is the fastest such time for a UH runner since 2007.
Second annual H2 invitational complete
Kala Kaaihue and Wade Nakamura took home the 2015 H2 Invitational by a score of 132 (62-70) on Saturday at Leilehua Golf Course and Mililani Golf Club. The pair won by defeating Randy Yim and Michael Wolfe in a six-hole playoff.
