A 40-year-old man fired two shots at his car repairman in Wahiawa last week after the mechanic held the suspect’s vehicle for payment, police said.
Burt Maurice Favero was charged last week with first-degree reckless endangering, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, and a weapons offense. His bail was set at $200,000.
Police said Favero was in a moving vehicle when he fired two shots at two men inside another moving vehicle on Nov. 18.
According to a police affidavit filed in Honolulu District Court, the victim told police he was driving in Wahiawa at about 10 a.m. when he noticed Favero sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle that was following him. He said he saw Favero holding a gun in his right hand, said the affidavit, released Monday.
Favero fired one shot near California Avenue and Iliwai Drive, hitting the right side of the victim’s rear window, the affidavit said. The affidavit did not say when Favero fired the second bullet.
Police stopped Favero a few hours later, riding in the back seat of a different vehicle near 188 Lakeview Circle. Officers recovered a Ruger SP 101 .357 Magnum revolver from Favero’s front pocket with three live rounds and two empty chambers, the affidavit said.
During the investigation, the victim told police that he met Favero through a friend and Favero wanted him to repair a vehicle for him. After the repairs were done, Favero did not pay for the services, so the victim refused to return the vehicle. He told police he believes that is why the incident occurred.
