RENO, Nev. >> A 92-year-old Minnesota man’s first visit to the state of Nevada this week was more special than most.

Charles Sehe says he wanted to check the trip off his "bucket list" after spending most of his Navy career on the USS Nevada during World War II.

Sehe was 18 years old when he was nearly killed on the Nevada at Pearl Harbor. He also was on board the battleship when it shelled occupied beaches for the U.S. invasions of Normandy, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

Local members of the U.S. Navy League raised money to help bring him to Nevada after he sent a box of memorabilia for an exhibit at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.

Sehe visited the museum this week, rang the Nevada’s bell at the governor’s office and was honored during a ceremony at the ship’s memorial outside the Capitol.
