Triathlon will close parts of H-1, H-3 freeways Saturday
Honolulu police will close roads from Ala Moana Boulevard to Nimitz Highway, portions of the H-1 and H-3 freeways, and Kaneohe Bay Drive for a triathlon Saturday morning.
The Race to the Base goes from Ala Moana Beach Park to Marine Base Hawaii in Kaneohe.
The race starts with a 1,000-meter swim at Ala Moana Beach Park. Participants will then bicycle from Magic Island to Aikahi Elementary School and run 10 kilometers to Mokapu Road and back, through Marine Base Hawaii, to the finish line at Aikahi Elementary School.
Honolulu police said Ala Moana Boulevard will be closed in the east-bound direction from Piikoi Street to Atkinson Drive from about 6 a.m. until 7:30 a.m.; and in the west-bound direction from Atkinson Drive to Sand Island Road from 6 a.m. until 8 a.m.
Nimitz Highway under the viaduct will be closed in the west-bound direction between Sand Island Road and Valkenburg Street from 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.
Police will also close the two right lanes of the H-1 freeway from the Valkenburg Street on-ram to the Kaneohe offramp and the H-1 freeway until the H-3 freeway from about 6:30 a.m. until about 9 a.m. or after the last cyclist passes.

All on-ramps to the H-3 freeway will also be closed from 6:30 a.m. until the last cyclist passes.
Kaneohe Bay Drive from the H-3 offramp to Ilihau Street will close from 7 a.m. until the last cyclist passes.
Ilihau Street and Aikahi Loop will be closed Kaneohe Bay Drive to Mokapu Road will close from 7 a.m. until the last runner finishes. One lane will be open to local traffic.
Mokapu Road leading out of Marine Base Hawaii will also close at 8 a.m. until the last runner is done.
Police said they will attempt to let cross-traffic flow through once the bulk of the cyclists and runners have passed. Most roads should be open to cross-traffic by 8 a.m., police said.
Aloha Street, Aikahi Loop and Mokapu Road should re-open by about 11 a.m.
