Season tickets for Hawaii men’s volleyball, which includes 17 home matches, go on sale Monday.
Packages begin at $125 for adults and $40 for non-UH Manoa students. Seats in the upper bowl of the Stan Sheriff Center are also available.
Tickets can be purchased online at HawaiiAthletics.com, at the Sheriff Center box office or by calling 944-2697. The Rainbow Warriors return nine players from last season’s team that finished second in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and advanced to the NCAA Championship Tournament for the first time since 2002.
Hawaii opens the season with the 22nd Outrigger Resorts Invitational scheduled for Jan. 7, 8 and 10, and will play King, Harvard and national runner-up Lewis. Other home matches are against Grand Canyon, UC San Diego, UCLA, Long Beach State, Brigham Young, UC Irvine and Cal Baptist.
HPU men fall at Wichita State
The Hawaii Pacific men’s basketball team opened the season with a 91-57 exhibition loss at Wichita State on Saturday in Wichita, Kan.
Sharks senior forward Joel Feigler finished with a game-high 15 points and added six rebounds. The Shockers, shooting 50 percent from the floor, were led by Anton Grady’s 13 points.
Sharks end season with shutout
Junior Sara Romo scored in the 41st minute and the Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team closed out the season with a 3-0 win over Hawaii Hilo on senior day at Atherton Field.
The Sharks (9-9, 6-7 PacWest) added second-half goals by Noelle Mercado and Breanna Gaddis. Tiani Teanio had nine saves for the Vulcans (5-9-3, 4-9).
>> Brigham Young-Hawaii scored three goals within an eight-minute span in the second half to shut out Chaminade 3-0 in the season finale for both teams at the BYUH field.
Scoring for the Seasiders (6-9-3, 5-6-2) against the Silverswords (1-16, 0-13) were Ansley Warner, Kala Brundige and Tiffani Rice.
>> In PacWest men’s action, Hawaii Pacific improved to 10-6-1 overall and 8-4-1 in PacWest play with a 2-0 victory over Hawaii-Hilo (4-12-2, 3-8-2). The Sharks scored in each half, with Sven Koenig in the first and Ryo Sugihara in the second.
>> Jacob McRae did all the scoring in the BYUH men’s soccer team’s home finale on Saturday in a 2-0 victory over Chaminade. The Silverswords conclude their season at 1-14-1 overall and 1-11-1 in the PacWest. BYUH is 10-8, 7-5.
Hawaii Pacific rallies to win in five sets
The HPU volleyball team (13-11, 8-8 PacWest) couldn’t close out a 2-1 set lead, falling to Academy of Art (7-17, 3-13) 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 15-13 in a road contest. The Sharks were led by Pomai Recca’s double-double of 18 kills and 21 digs.
>>The BYU-Hawaii volleyball team dropped to 13-11 and 11-5 in PacWest play after getting swept on the road by Fresno Pacific 25-19, 26-24, 25-14. The Sunbirds, who impoved to 10-12 and 10-7 in the PacWest, were led by Gabriela Macedo’s 10 kills and 13 digs.
>>Chaminade’s Keani Passi had team highs of 19 kills and 14 digs to lead the Silverswords (17-7, 10-6 PacWest) in a 23-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 victory over Holy Names on the road. The Hawks dropped to 3-22, 1-15.
>>The Hawaii Hilo volleyball team (10-9, 8-8 PacWest) lost in five sets to Dominican (7-15, 4-12) 25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 15-25, 23-21 on Saturday. Marley Strand-Nicolaisen (23 kills, 10 digs) and Morgan Lees (10, 10) each had double-doubles for the Vulcans.
Oklahoma continues to lead Ka’anapali
No. 13 Oklahoma is poised to be a wire-to-wire winner in the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic, heading into Sunday’s final round with a six-stroke lead at the Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course on Maui.
The Sooners are at 11-under 557, six strokes ahead of Georgia in the 19-team field. Host Hawaii dropped three spots to sixth at 576.
Georgia’s Zach Healy took the lead a 134 after Saturday’s 66. The top Rainbow Warrior was James Moran-Horton, who dropped into a tie for 11th at 141.
Rainbow Wahine sweep tournament
The University of Hawaii softball team completed a four-game sweep in the Kamaaina Tournament with wins over UH Hilo and Chaminade on Saturday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Senior second baseman Tayana Mata hit a tie-breaking home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to propel the Wahine to a 9-3 win over UH Hilo in the first game of the day. Keiki Carlos and Kanani Aina Cabrales both went 3-for-4 with a double.
After UH Hilo edged Chaminade 4-3, the Wahine closed the tournament with a 9-0 win over the Silverswords behind Aina Cabrales’ one-hit, six-strikeout performance in her second win of the weekend. Freshman third baseman Nicole Lopez had a double and a home run in her two plate appearances and hit .636 with seven runs batted in during the tournament.
UH and UH Hilo originally had tripleheaders scheduled, but their second meeting on Saturday was canceled due to the Vulcans’ travel schedule.
