It’s tempting to find black humor in the travails of the Affordable Care Act, except it’s too serious to be funny.
Even so, it’s noteworthy that the crashing of an ACA website seems to have become a tradition.
The staff at the Hawaii Health Connector, the agency that itself will be shut down within the next year, has struggled to move enrollees over to healthcare.gov because the federal online health insurance exchange is not working. The crash happened right in the midst of a big outreach effort over the weekend, too.
This is worrisome. Roughly 40,000 of Hawaii’s Connector enrollees must re-enroll on healthcare.gov to avoid losing coverage Jan. 1.
More retailers target Kapolei
Kapolei Commons plans to add a little more local flavor to its shopping center next year, with the addition of Roy Yamaguchi’s Eating House 1849 and La Tour Cafe.
Flanking Regal Entertainment Group’s 12-screen movie theater, they will join the Commons’ current selection of chain restaurants, which include Denny’s and Ruby Tuesday.
Eating House will offer "plantation cuisine," with lower prices than Yamaguchi’s signature Roy’s restaurant, while La Tour’s menu will include soups and pizzas.
By late 2016, Ka Makana Alii, a 1.4 million-square-foot mall, also is expected to open in Kapolei, featuring a luxury Consolidated Theaters, and more eateries and stores.
The Second City is shaping up — at least on the retail side.
