A woman was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition Thursday morning after she was struck by a delivery truck next to the hospital, police said.
At 6:03 a.m., police said, a Pepsi delivery truck carrying a pallet of canned beverages was backing up on Miller Street when the vehicle struck the woman, 59, who was on the roadway at the time.
The woman was believed to initially be in a wheelchair that belongs to the hospital, police said. The wheelchair was on the sidewalk near the ambulance entrance of the hospital’s emergency room at the time of the accident.
It’s unclear at this time how the woman got on the roadway.
There were personal items on the seat of the wheelchair and in a clear plastic bag tied to the one of the handles.
A Pepsi representative at the scene declined to comment due to the investigation.
