Seattle Pacific beat a Hawaii PacWest school at home for the second night in a row, this time topping Hawaii Hilo 86-73 behind Bryce Leavitt’s career-high 21 points. The Falcons improve to 3-1, while the Vulcans remain winless at 0-3.
On Friday, Seattle Pacific beat Brigham Young-Hawaii in Seattle.
>> The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team rallied from a 19-10 deficit after the first quarter to beat Arizona Christian 87-75 in Laie on Saturday afternoon. The Sharks (2-2) were led by Breanna Mackenzie’s 19 points and six assists. Madison Austin led the Firestorm (4-2) with 21 points.
Next up for the Sharks is D-II No. 1 Emporia State on Thursday as part of the Oahu Classic. Tip-off is set for noon at Saint Francis School.
>> The Alaska Fairbanks women’s team (3-2) raced to a 50-23 lead at Hawaii Hilo and didn’t look back, finishing its three-game, four-day road trip to the islands with an 87-55 victory. The Vulcans, who turned the ball over 22 times, dropped to 0-3.
>> Ian Harward’s 21-point performance wasn’t enough to lift BYU-Hawaii (1-2) past Central Washington (3-0) in a 95-86 loss. CWU’s Gary Jacobs had game highs of 22 points and five assists.
Chaminade rallies past Hawaii Pacific
The Chaminade volleyball team (19-9, 12-8 PacWest) rallied from a 2-1 set deficit to down Hawaii Pacific (15-13, 10-10) 25-14, 20-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-13 on Saturday.
The Silverswords were led by Keani Passi’s 17 kills and Natashya Enos’ double-double of 27 assists and 11 digs. HPU’s Elizabeth Culpepper had a match-high 19 kills, while Pomai Recca added 11 for the Sharks.
