A 40-year-old man was charged Friday in connection with gunshots fired at a moving car in Wahiawa.
Burt Maurice Favero, of Wahiawa, was charged with reckless endangering, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and a firearm violation. His bail was set at $200,000.
Police said Favero fired a gun from a moving vehicle at another moving vehicle with two men inside, both age 35, between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was arrested shortly afterward on Lake View Circle.
Suspect who held up Kalihi business sought
Police are searching for a man who robbed a business on North School Street in Kalihi on Friday night.
The man entered the business about 7:20 p.m. with a dangerous weapon and demanded property from a 64-year-old female clerk, police said.
Hawaii News Now aired security video that showed the man had a handgun.
5 alleged robbers arrested on H-1 freeway
Five men were arrested for an armed robbery Friday night in Pearl City, police said.
The men, ages 19 to 25, were arrested about 11 p.m. on the H-1 freeway in the Ewa-bound lanes near the Kunia offramp.
Police said the men entered a Pearl City business about 9:45 p.m. and threatened the use of force while brandishing a dangerous instrument. The men got into a vehicle and fled. Police broadcast a description of the vehicle, which was spotted by an officer who pulled the driver over near the Kunia offramp.
Five men inside — four from Waipahu and one from Maili — were arrested for investigation of first-degree robbery.
Bodyboarding visitor saved from rip current
Maui firefighters Saturday morning rescued a male visitor caught in a rip current at Hamoa Beach in East Maui.
The incident happened at 10:52 a.m., Maui County said by email. Hana firefighters were conducting ocean training activities at the popular beach when someone noticed a bodyboarder waving his arms over his head. A firefighter paddled out about 150 yards with a rescue board and brought the man safely back to shore.
He did not require medical attention.
The 34-year-old man, visiting from Salt Lake City, Utah, was bodyboarding with two other friends when he was caught by the rip current. The other two bodyboarders were able to make it back on their own.
None of the three was using swim fins.
