Honolulu is filled with unrecognized gems of midcentury modern architecture, according to photographer Darren Bradley. "I’m trying to get people in Honolulu to appreciate their heritage," said the Hawaii-born Bradley, 43, speaking by phone from San Diego. "It could be an architectural destination like Miami Beach or Palm Beach, if only they would preserve it."
Bradley is coming to town to discuss local modernist buildings and his work, which won a 2013 Paris Prix de la Photographie and has appeared in Dwell, Wallpaper and elsewhere.
On Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., he will give a free presentation at Kaka’ako Agora; RSVPs are required at bit.ly/1Max6F3. On Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., he will speak at a party; tickets are $40 at docomomoholiday.eventbrite.com. Both events are sponsored by DOCOMOMO Hawai’i, Historic Hawai’i Foundation and Interisland Terminal.
