Kalia Road in Waikiki reopens after gas leak
Part of Kalia Road, near the Hilton Hawaiian Village, was reopened early Tuesday morning after crews repaired a gas leak.
The leak was caused by a ruptured 4-inch gas line. The line was inadvertently drilled during the construction of a sewer replacement project, Honolulu fire officials said.
Workers capped both ends of the main line and sealed a feeder line.
Fire officials arrived at the scene at about 1:10 p.m. and evacuated the area while assessing the air quality.
Traffic along Ala Moana Boulevard between Kalia Road and Hobron Lane was temporarily blocked until the road was reopened around 1 a.m.
