Three men who died over the weekend in separate water accidents were identified Tuesday.
The 21-year-old sailor who died Saturday after being washed into the ocean while hiking at a shoreline formation called Rock Bridge, just outside Hanauma Bay, is Seaman Andrew Villolovos, the Navy said.
Villolovos, who has been in Hawaii since June, was assigned to Navy Information Operations Command and worked at its facilities at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam and Kunia. He was from Toledo, Ohio.
Villolovos’ body was recovered in offshore waters. He had been hiking with friends when he was swept into the water at about 12:10 p.m. Saturday near Rock Bridge.
The city Medical Examiner’s Office released the identities of the two other victims. Hung Tran, 76, of Denver died Saturday at a hospital where he was taken Aug. 31 after being found unresponsive in the ocean near Kapolei.
Eben Maikui Jr., 52, of Waipahu died Monday after he fell from a fishing area into the water edging Ala Moana Beach Park. Maikui was found unresponsive at 1:25 p.m. and was taken in critical condition to a hospital, where he died.
